Shein is a Chinese online fashion and sports retailer founded in 2008 by Chris Xu in Guangzhou, China. It currently serves over 220 countries. The company is known for its cheaply priced apparel which is made directly in China. The company intentionally stays out of the media and goes through great lengths to hide its origins. The "About Us" on its US web site has no mention of its Chinese origins nor its executive team.

By 2013 Shein had 100 employees, and had already established their product headquarters in Guanghzou, China from which Shein uses an agile supply chain system known as "real-time retail".
In 2018, the company was sued by Levi Strauss & Co. for copying a trademarked jean stitching. The case was settled out of court.
On May 9, 2020, SHEIN held a virtual promotional concert titled SHEIN Together that featured artists Katy Perry, Lil Nas X, and Doja Cat.
In June 2020, it was banned in India citing privacy concerns. In July 2020, a controversial necklace with a swastika was reported and pulled from sale (the brand clarified that it was a Buddhist swastika, not a Nazi swastika).
In May 2021, it was the most downloaded shopping app in the U.S. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, Shein's business model has benefited from the China–United States trade war.
In 2021, various independent designers complained about cheaper unauthorized copies being sold by Shein, and there were calls for a boycott.
The company uses a fast fashion business model which has come under scrutiny over unethical labor practices to achieve its drastically low prices.
